Patch notes / Every change
Update
log.
Everything that changed on PendarSmart, newest first. New levels, new creatures, new games and the fixes in between.
-
You fell back in.
New game
- Backrooms 2: the sequel to the first game on this site, rebuilt in real 3D. It is game thirteen and our fifth 3D game.
- Four levels: The Lobby (fuses), Habitable Zone (keycards and blackouts), Pipe Dreams (breakers in a maze) and Level !, which is one long sprint.
- A new maze every run: each level is built from a number when you press play. The green EXIT arrows on the walls always point the true way out.
- Five creatures, five rules: the Smiler moves when you look away, the Deathmoth wants your torch, the Hound hunts by sight, Crawlers hunt by sound, and the Fastest Entity just runs.
- New things to manage: sanity, almond water, torch batteries, lockers to hide in and a scanner that points at the next objective.
- The ending drops you somewhere you might know.
Also
- The Creature Index has the new Smiler.
- PendarAI knows Backrooms 2.
-
Name that ghost.
New game
- Cold Spot: a 3D ghost-hunting investigation, and our fourth 3D game. Somebody pays you to find out what is in their house.
- Seven tools: EMF reader, thermometer, UV light, spirit box, a night-view camera, a writing book and incense. You hold each one in your hand and it reacts to the house.
- Eight ghosts: Poltergeist, Shade, Banshee, Wraith, Mare, Revenant, Demon and Phantom. Each leaves three kinds of evidence and has its own habit. The ghost and its room are different every job.
- It does things: opens doors, switches lights off, throws cups and books, turns the TV on, trips the breaker and sometimes just stands there looking at you.
- Hunts: when your sanity gets low the front door locks and it comes for you. Break its line of sight, shut a door and wait.
- Two houses (a bungalow and a fourteen-room house), three difficulties, a journal that crosses off ghosts as you mark clues, photos and objectives for extra pay, and a Supplies shop.
- Furnished rooms with working doors and light switches, polished floors that reflect the room, and lamps that are stopped by walls and spill through doorways.
-
Something clicks.
New game
- Dead Air: a first-person body-cam horror game, and our third 3D game. Bring the voice recorders back from three sublevels: B1 Service Corridor, B2 Pump Hall and B3 The Sump.
- New creature: the Listener. It is blind and it hears everything. You can't see it with your eyes or your torch, only on the camera's night mode.
- Crouch to stay silent, throw bolts to send it somewhere else, and follow the signal meter to each recorder. The lift is the loudest thing in the building.
- A new renderer written for this game: real reflections on the wet floor, lamps that are blocked by walls, a torch beam that lights the dust in the air, and a body-camera lens with fisheye, grain and night vision. There is a Low graphics setting for slower computers.
Poolrooms Dive
- Rubber ducks: three hidden on every level, fifteen in all. One of them is always floating in a pool.
- Lifeguard whistle (Q): blow it and the swimmer backs off and the lifeguards freeze for a few seconds. You start with one, and more are lying around.
- Flippers on levels 2 to 5 make you swim a lot faster.
- Jump (Space), and a beach ball you can kick around until something pops it.
- Three stars per level: escape, never get bitten or grabbed, find every duck.
Night Shift
- Custom Night (beat Night 3): set each creature from 0 to 20, or pick one of five presets.
- Endless Shift (beat Night 5): the clock doesn't stop at 6 AM. Your score is how many hours you last.
Creature index
- The creature index grew to 38 entries. New: everything from Poolrooms Dive, Swarm, Heist Night and Duck Duel, the Glitch from Night Shift, and the Listener.
-
Five ways down.
Poolrooms Dive
- Five levels, unlocked one by one. Replay any level you've reached from the new level menu.
- 1 · The Shallow End: bright, two valves, five health. A gentle start.
- 2 · Lap Pool: one huge pool to get around, a payphone and the lights going out.
- 3 · The Deep End: the original map, with everything.
- 4 · Night Swim: the lights are off, and the lifeguards only move when you're not looking at them.
- 5 · The Drain: six valves, two swimmers, four lifeguards, water that keeps rising, and one hit kills. Good luck.
-
Four new games.
New games
- Poolrooms Dive: our second 3D game. Drain the flooded Poolrooms by turning five valves, while something swims in the deep end. Clear water, rippling light on the tiles, and a finale in the dark.
- Poolrooms, more scares: payphones that ring when you get close (don't answer the first one), a lifeguard who isn't on his chair when you look again, lights that go out one by one toward you, wet footprints that follow your steps, and pool announcements nobody should be making.
- Heist Night: top-down stealth. Guards with flashlights, cameras, lasers, lockpicking and hacking across 8 jobs.
- Beat Drop: a 4-lane rhythm game with six original songs made in code, from lo-fi to drum & bass.
- Swarm: a roguelite where your weapons fire on their own. Survive 12 minutes, pick upgrades and evolve them.
Night Shift
- The previous guard now calls the desk phone every night. Listen to him. Mostly.
- Things happen while you wait: footsteps in the ceiling, knocking behind the wall, messages on the monitor, and things you probably didn't see.
- Don't trust the clock on Night 4.
- Assist mode (on by default on phones): more time at the doors, slower power drain, and red warnings at the screen edges. On phones, tap the screen edges to look at the doors.
Website
- A recommended game at the top of the homepage, now styled properly on every browser.
- Fixed Play buttons that did nothing when a browser blocks site storage (private windows and some school devices).
-
Duck Duel.
New game
- Duck Duel: our first 2-player game. Two ducks, one arena. Peck, throw bread, lob eggs and knock the other duck off the stage.
- Play a friend on one keyboard (or one tablet), or fight Robo-Duck on Easy, Normal or Hard.
- Four arenas: The Pond, Level 0, the Snack Stack Kitchen and the Night Shift Office.
Night Shift
- Camera photos: press X on the cameras to snap creatures for your evidence board.
- Blown fuses: fix them at the breaker (B) by matching wires, while nobody watches the doors.
- Hidden ducks: one rubber duck hides on the cameras every night. Find all six for Quack mode.
- On phones, a REBOOT button now shows up during glitches.
-
Night Shift.
New game
- Night Shift: our first real 3D game. You're the night guard in the Backrooms office. Two doors, six cameras, one lamp, not enough power. Survive until 6 AM.
- Five nights plus a secret Night 6. A new creature every night, and each one has one rule.
- New creatures: The Smiler, The Hound, The Deathmoth, The Crawler and The Glitch.
- Built from scratch with no game engine: soft shadows, shaded corners, working security cameras (the desk monitor shows a live feed), and sounds that tell you which side something is on.
Website
- Night Shift added to the homepage.
- Night Shift creatures added to the Creature Index.
- Pendar AI knows Night Shift too.

- New creatures: crabs and bees (stomp them) and hedgehogs (don't).
- Springs, golden feathers, a run timer, a death counter and a saved best time.
Backrooms
- The Smiler wakes after the second fuse. It only moves when you are not looking at it with the flashlight on.
- The Deathmoth wakes about a minute in and hunts your flashlight. Press F to go dark.
- Creatures now get a FROZEN label while you are holding the Smiler still.
- New renderer: real carpet floor, ceiling tiles with 3D fluorescent panels (some flicker, all die during a blackout), textured wallpaper with baseboards, and a flashlight beam that is brightest in the middle.
- Sound: the fluorescent hum, and footsteps on the carpet.
